President William Ruto and Siaya Governor James Orengo shared the same platform in Usenge on Tuesday, but the moment quickly turned into a talking point after the governor left shortly after addressing the crowd.
The event, held at the Usenge Pier project site, was part of the president’s ongoing tour of the Nyanza region. Leaders from the national and county governments attended, along with residents who turned up in large numbers.
Governor Orengo was given a chance to speak early during the function. His remarks were brief and measured. He welcomed the president to Siaya but maintained his political stand, which has often been critical of the current administration.
Soon after finishing his speech, Orengo was seen walking away from the venue. His exit came just minutes after he addressed the gathering. This move did not go unnoticed by the crowd and leaders present.
Some sections of the audience had already shown signs of restlessness during his speech. Chants from parts of the crowd appeared to favor the president, creating a tense atmosphere. The situation may have influenced the governor’s decision to leave early.
President Ruto continued with the programme after Orengo’s departure. He focused on development plans for the region and highlighted the need for leaders to work together despite political differences. His speech received strong reactions from the crowd, with many expressing support.
