A worrying situation has emerged in Bomet after residents expressed sadness and concern over a poor sewerage system that has led to raw sewage flowing openly toward the Nyongores River.
According to clips seen by this writer, dirty wastewater can be seen floating on the road and moving through a drainage outlet along a wall before flowing into the river.
The sewage has created stagnant pools of dirty water and a strong foul smell, leaving nearby residents worried about their health and safety.
Photos show a polluted pathway where untreated sewage is openly flowing, forming pools of waste that attract flies and other insects. Locals fear that the situation could worsen if no action is taken soon.
Many residents have questioned what the County Government of Bomet is doing as this continues. Some have urged the health department to issue a public notice and take firm action against those lacking proper waste systems.
Others say businesses without working sewerage systems should be temporarily closed until they meet health standards.
Environmental observers warn that the disposal of untreated waste poses a serious risk to both people and nature. The contamination of the Nyongores River could affect water sources downstream, harm aquatic life, and increase the spread of diseases such as cholera and typhoid.
Residents are now calling for urgent intervention by the County Government to fix the drainage system and stop the release of raw sewage into the river. They say public health should come before business interests, as clean water and a safe environment are vital for everyone’s wellbeing.
