The government through the minister of education, Hon Ezekiel Machogu has come out to send a warning to schools heads.
As reported by the Nation, Machogu has warned all secondary schools principals against increasing school fees despite the capitation cut. According to Machogu, government’s decision to cut capitation from Shs 22,000 to 17,000 per student should not be the reason for principals to increase the school fees. Machogu said that any school head who will be found to have increased the fees will face the consequences.
“Education CS Machogu warns secondary school principals not to increase fees even after State cut capitation to Sh17,000 from Sh22,244 per learner per year.” Says the report . This is the first time the government is cutting the amount of capitation per student by such a big amount. This will likely be a burden to some schools mainly day schools who have been depending on capitation.
