Geoffrey Mosiria has challenged Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to demand answers from Governor Johnson Sakaja over the Eastleigh building collapse and growing concerns about building safety in the capital. In a statement shared on his Facebook page on Wednesday, October 28, Mosiria questioned Sifuna’s silence following the tragedy, noting that six days had passed since the incident without the senator visiting the site.
Mosiria urged Sifuna, who leads The Equitable Party (TEP), to use his position to hold the county government accountable and push for explanations over the recurring collapse of buildings in Nairobi.
He called on the senator to summon Sakaja and seek answers on the safety of buildings approved and constructed under the current county administration.
“Senator Sifuna, where are you when the people of Nairobi need you the most?” Mosiria posed, challenging the lawmaker to take up the concerns affecting residents.
The county official also alleged that two buildings he had previously raised concerns about had continued with construction despite his visits and efforts to stop what he described as illegal works.
According to Mosiria, both structures later collapsed, resulting in loss of life.
He called for accountability over the circumstances under which the construction reportedly resumed. However, the allegations regarding the buildings and the county’s handling of the matter had not been independently verified in the information provided.
Mosiria further raised concerns about the treatment of Nairobi County employees, alleging that some officers faced intimidation from goons while hardworking staff members were being demoted or dismissed.
He urged Sifuna to address these concerns as part of his oversight role and ensure that county officials answer questions about public safety, staff welfare.
