Gachagua

Tension spilt into the open in Narok after reports emerged that close to five hundred police officers had been stationed around the town to stop former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from accessing the area ahead of his planned rally.

Gachagua was expected to lead a charged tour in support of a DCP candidate, but the sudden security barricade has sparked whispers of political insecurity and silent battles within the region.

Njohi, one of Gachagua’s outspoken allies, expressed disbelief as he shared a link capturing the development, insisting the move exposed the commander in chief’s growing anxiety over the MCA contest. The footage immediately lit up conversations online, especially among Narok youth who have been keenly tracking the shifting alliances ahead of the by-election.

Residents woke up to unusual scenes at key entry points into the town, with police trucks and officers lined up in formations rarely seen during routine political tours. Njohi argued that such heavy deployment over a ward race suggested deeper worries within top leadership about losing grip in regions once considered friendly to the ruling coalition.

Inside Narok, talk quickly shifted from campaign promises to questions about power play. Traders and boda boda riders noted that tension had been building for days, with whispers that Gachagua’s presence would test the political mood in a county where loyalties have been slowly tilting.

His planned rally was expected to energize the DCP ground team and signal that he still commands influence beyond his home base.

The decision to keep him out has now turned the MCA contest into a bigger stage than anyone expected. Njohi interpreted the move as a sign that the commander in chief’s political footing in Narok may not be as firm as projected, especially with rival formations pushing harder to reclaim lost space.

As the by-election nears, the confrontation has placed Narok in the national spotlight, turning what was meant to be a routine local campaign stop into a symbol of the widening political cracks.
