Swahili news anchor Fridah Mwaka has shared a deeply emotional and unexpected chapter of her life — becoming a foster mother to two children who lost their mother at a young age.
In an interview with NTV, Fridah recalled the moment her life changed when one of the children, Waridi, looked up at her and simply said, “Mum.”
Days later, her sibling, Peshy, followed suit. The two were children of a close friend who had passed away, and though Fridah had never planned on motherhood, the children’s trust and love moved her deeply.
“First of all, it is such an honour to be called ‘mum,’” Fridah shared. “They are very close to me.
I would say we are a very close family.” Though she lacked parenting experience, she chose to embrace the role, trusting in God to help her navigate the journey.
Mwaka’s story has touched many online, with fans praising her compassion and strength. It’s a story not just of loss, but of love, family, and unexpected purpose — showing that sometimes, the most powerful bonds are formed not by blood, but by heart.
