Former Uhuru’s Bodyguard Pulled Out Of Kenya Army Headquarters As He Retires After 39 Years In KDF

Former Kenya Army Commander Lieutenant General ( Rtd) Peter Mbogo Njiru, has reverted to civilian life after handing over office to his successor, Lieutenant General David Kimaiyo Tarus in a colourful ceremony at Kenya Army headquarters.

Lt General Tarus officially becomes the 23rd Kenya Army Commander in the history of KDF. He had previously served under Lt General ( Rtd) Njiru as Deputy Kenya Army Commander.

For Lt General ( Rtd) Njiru, it marks the end of an era for a man who had served in the military for 39 years since he was commissioned as second Lieutenant in 1985.

The former Kenya Army chief was literally pulled out of the Kenya Army headquarters by senior officers as he bids farewell to the place he called home for the last two years.

He had previously served as the Aide-de-camp to former Presidents Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta

In 2018, he was posted to the Recruits Training School, Eldoret and appointed as Commandant. He would then be moved to Lanet and appointed as Kenya Military Academy Commandant before moving to Nairobi where he was handed to role to head the Defence Staff College, Karen.

In 2022, he was appointed by Uhuru as the Kenya Army Commander to succeed Lt General ( Rtd) Walter Koipaton who exited the military after attaining retirement age.

Lt General ( Rtd) Njiru now awaits vetting by Parliament after being nominated by Ruto as Kenya’s Ambassador to Islamabad, Pakistan.
