The latest changes by President William Ruto in the country’s diplomatic missions have effectively left former ICT permanent secretary Prof Bitange Ndemo without a job.
Prof. Ndemo was until yesterday serving as Kenya’s ambassador to Belgium and the European Union.
But in the Wednesday changes made by Dr Ruto, Kenya’s outgoing High Commissioner to Uganda Joash Maangi was appointed as Kenya’s new ambassador to Brussels, Belgium and the European Union.
Maangi takes the role with immediate effect, leaving Prof. Ndemo hanging.
An important figure in Kenya’s ICT revolution, Prof. Ndemo served as a PS during the former President Mwai Kibaki’s reign.
He would later rejoin the University of Nairobi where he rose through the ranks to become entrepreneurship professor.
In 2024, he was appointed as Kenya’s ambassador to Belgium in the changes made by Dr Ruto.
In May 2025, Prof Ndemo was appointed as the new University of Nairobi Vice Chancellor but declined to take over the role, saying that the process never followed due procedure.
