Oyugi

Former Deputy Kenya Army commander Major General ( Rtd ) Maurice Oyugi is among the retired generals who on Sunday made a rare public appearance as the 1979 Cadet intake class made a reunion.

The colourful event provided an opportunity for the 1979 intake classmates to reconnect and share their experiences of 46 years ago.

Major General ( Rtd ) Oyugi is one of the most successful members of the 1979 intake, which also includes former Chief of Defence Forces General Robert Kibochi.

At the height of his military career, Major General ( Rtd ) Oyugi rose to senior military command and administrative positions, including being the General Officer Commanding Eastern Command.

In 2010, he was appointed by the then President Mwai Kibaki as the new Deputy Kenya Army commander to succeed Lt General ( Rtd ) Mwaniki Njuki, who was appointed as the new Kenya Army commander in place of Lt Gen ( Rtd ) Jackson Tuwei who bowed out of the military after attaining retirement age.

On Sunday, Major General Oyugi stepped out in a designer shirt as he interacted with his former colleagues in the military.
