A 68-year-old American citizen has been accused of involvement in a series of child sexual abuse cases 18 months after he was controversially released from a 50-year prison sentence.
The suspect, Terry Ray Krieger, aka Guka Terry, who has been detained by the police since November 10, 2023 when he was accused of sexually abusing a child in the Mavoko court, was brought to court yesterday under strict police protection while in a wheelchair.
The suspect was denied bail after denying seven charges of sexually abusing children before two judges of the court.
The police had to help him get out of the Land Cruiser before taking him to a cell in court. The suspect was living in the prestigious neighborhood of Great Wall, Mavoko with “friends” after he was released from prison.
He was accused of sexually abusing a three-year-old girl in the same neighborhood between November 6, and 8, 2023. He was also accused of refusing to have his fingerprints taken at the Athi River police station contrary to section 55(5) of the service law. of the Kenyan police in 2011.
Sitting in the dock in his wheelchair, wearing a purple shirt, gray t-shirt, gray pants, black sports shoes and white socks, the suspect remained calm as the charges were read. His female lawyer withdrew from the case at the last minute due to ” weight” of the case.
Mr Krieger told the judge he did not know why his lawyer was not in court.
“Sir, I don’t know why my lawyer is not here,” he said smiling and without regrets.
However, Senior Chief Magistrate Barbra Ojoo denied him bail calling him a dangerous person and a “fugitive” who is in the country illegally.
“The defendant has a criminal record in America. The penalty for the current charges is a prison term of not less than five years. Nothing has been presented before me to show that the suspect needs special treatment. I refuse to give him bail at this time. The case will be mentioned on November 27, 2023 in preparation for a full hearing,” ordered the judge.
The suspect who shouted insults at the journalists who were photographing him regardless of the offenses against him, also faced six other charges before the Chief Resident Magistrate of Mavoko Mrs. Mary Gitau including sexual abuse, being in the country illegally, involving children in pornography, using children to benefit from prostitution, and publicizing sexual crimes involving minors in violation of the Juvenile Act.
“Sir, I know there is someone who has sworn to give all the money needed to put me in jail. These are false charges,” he told the court.
The prosecution told the court that it appealed against his release in a case in which he was imprisoned 50 years after being found guilty of sexually abusing children.
“The prosecution has appealed against his release while he was serving a 50-year sentence in the main prison of the Committee,” the prosecutor said.
The suspect is detained in Kitengela prison.
In a case that led to his imprisonment for 50 years, he was found guilty of sexually abusing a 3-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl who the police said were his neighbors in Olepolos, Kajiado county.
