Samidoh Mucgoki

Mugithi star Samuel Muchoki, popularly known as Samidoh, has once again stirred political debate after using his latest live show to criticize President William Ruto’s government. The performance came only days after his resignation from the National Police Service was officially confirmed.

Samidoh, who has faced repeated clashes with authorities over his political expressions, appeared free and bold on stage as he entertained fans. In the middle of his show, he revived the controversial “wantam” slogan, a phrase widely used by critics of the current administration to suggest that Ruto’s regime may not last beyond one term. His playful but sharp remarks quickly caught attention both online and offline.

The singer has been under the spotlight for most of the year because of his dual life as a police officer and musician. During his time in service, he was transferred several times for allegedly breaching the police code of political neutrality. At one point, reports even claimed he had deserted duty while in the United States, though later documents revealed he was on official leave. Despite these controversies, Samidoh managed to grow his music career while navigating the strict rules of the uniformed service.

By resigning, the popular artist seems to have chosen freedom over the restrictions that came with his job as an officer. His decision has been linked to the influence of former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, who openly encouraged him to pursue music fully, arguing that it was both financially rewarding and safer for him.

Samidoh’s latest performance sparked a wave of reactions from Kenyans online. Some fans cheered him for speaking his mind, while others cautioned him to be careful, noting the risks of openly mocking the head of state. For his loyal supporters, however, his fearless stance only strengthens his image as a voice of the people.
