This political transition occurred on Friday, March 13, at an event held in the Namatala region of Manda–Shivanga Ward.
The group of individuals who switched allegiance was spearheaded by Tom Shoto, who had previously been a prominent critic of UDA during the Malava by-election.
Farouk Kibet, a close advisor to President William Ruto, was in attendance at the event. David Ndakwa, along with several Members of County Assembly and additional local leaders, were also present.
During his address, Kibet warmly welcomed the new members to UDA, characterizing their decision as indicative of growing faith in the party’s leadership and developmental initiatives.
He underscored the necessity of unity among leaders and the community to promote progress in the region Other.
local leaders present at the gathering expressed hope that this new political partnership would foster collaboration and improve the execution of development projects in Malava and broader Kakamega County.Tom Shoto, representing the defectors, explained that their choice to align with UDA was motivated by a wish to collaborate more effectively with the national government and support development projects that aid the local community.
This shift in allegiance signifies a significant political change in the region, especially since several leaders had formerly been vocal opponents of the ruling party.
Some suggest that this development may reshape the political environment as parties strategize for upcoming elections while aiming to strengthen their backing among grassroots leaders and constituents.
