Residents of Eldoret have raised fresh concerns over the quality of tap water supplied by the Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (ELDOWAS) after noticing unusual discoloration in their water.

Many locals took to Facebook to share photos and videos showing their taps producing red to brown water, sparking fears over potential health risks.

The issue has caused panic among residents, especially since it comes just a month after many people in Eldoret reported cases of diarrhea and stomach upsets.

At the time, some residents suspected that ELDOWAS water was contaminated. Now, with taps spewing discolored water, anxiety has grown over whether the water is safe for consumption.

“I turned on my tap and was shocked to see brownish water flowing out. How can we trust this water when people have already been complaining of stomach problems?” one resident posted on Facebook.

“We pay for clean water, but what we are getting is dirty water. We need answers from ELDOWAS and the county government,: Another local said.

Despite the growing concerns, the Uasin Gishu County health department has dismissed claims that the water is unsafe. Officials say they have conducted tests and assured residents that the water is not contaminated.

However, many residents remain skeptical and are demanding more transparency and immediate action from ELDOWAS.

The company is yet to issue a formal statement explaining why the water appears discolored and what measures are being taken to resolve the issue. Meanwhile, residents are being advised to boil their water before use to avoid any potential health risks.

Pressure is mounting on ELDOWAS and county officials to address the situation before it escalates into a full-blown health crisis.
