Popular Eldoret entertainer Janet Jerop has been hospitalised after attempting a risky 50-hour no-sleep challenge aimed at raising awareness about mental health and the struggles facing independent creatives.
The challenge, which was livestreamed online, attracted attention across social media as fans watched the DJ push herself to remain awake for more than two days. However, concern quickly replaced excitement after reports emerged that she had fallen ill shortly after the stunt.
Jerop, popularly known as DJ Hot Jantex, had only recently recovered from a serious medical ordeal involving complicated leg surgery. According to people close to her, doctors had advised her to prioritise rest and recovery following weeks of treatment and rehabilitation.
Her health troubles began earlier this year after complications forced her admission to MP Shah Hospital, where she underwent specialised treatment that reportedly left her with medical bills exceeding Sh1 million. Unable to work during her recovery, the entertainer turned to social media to seek help after fears emerged that she could be detained over unpaid hospital fees.
Relief eventually came when Stephen Sang stepped in and cleared the outstanding bill, allowing her to return home to Eldoret.
Friends say the no-sleep challenge was her way of turning a painful personal experience into a conversation about mental health, financial pressure, and the hidden struggles many entertainers endure behind the scenes.
Online reactions have remained divided. While some fans praised her determination and courage, others criticised the challenge as dangerous, especially for someone still recovering from surgery.
Medical experts continue to warn that prolonged sleep deprivation can trigger serious physical and mental health complications, particularly in patients recovering from major medical procedures.
