Kenyan comedian and filmmaker Eddie Butita and podcaster Rapcha the Sayantist have engaged in a heated exchange on X, trading pointed remarks over their careers, public associations and views on politics.
The online confrontation began on Thursday, September 24, 2026, after Rapcha appeared to take a swipe at Butita while discussing different categories of content creators.
Rapcha shared a photo of Butita and wrote: “Some are in the business of selling content. Others are in the business of selling content creators.”
The post was accompanied by additional remarks that were not suitable for publication.
Butita responded by questioning why Rapcha had chosen to engage him publicly.
“Lakini Rapcha nikiwa class 1 ulikua msanii vihoja mahakamani, sahii unabeef na mimi kwa podcast ndio ukue relevant? Si utulie tu kama wazee wenzako ufuge ata mbuzi inaweza kusaidia,” Butita wrote.
Rapcha then hit back, asking Butita to respect his family while making reference to the comedian’s association with President William Ruto.
“Ndugu @eddiebutita toka kwa Ruto, wewe ni mtu mzima. Heshimu familia,” Rapcha said in his response, alongside further remarks that were not suitable for publication.
Butita continued the exchange by questioning how Rapcha’s children might view some of his posts.
“Watoto wako wakijua vitu unaandika huku online bado watasema we look up to our dad?” Butita responded.
The disagreement later moved into political territory when Rapcha referred to Butita’s work at KBC and his own history in the entertainment industry.
Rapcha claimed that he was among entertainers who had previously declined to perform for former President Daniel arap Moi during school holidays. He also accused Butita of lacking an understanding of history while commenting on his relationship with the current administration.
Butita responded by questioning Rapcha’s reference to KBC, asking whether the broadcaster was not owned by the government.
The exchange comes against the backdrop of increased public debate over the relationship between Kenyan entertainers, government institutions and political leaders.
