Police officers in Nanyuki staged a dramatic operation early Wednesday after a spate of burglaries unsettled Muthaiga Estate residents.

At 4:30 a.m., officers acted on intelligence linking a suspicious vehicle to recent break-ins.

The team positioned themselves across the estate, watching movements. Their focus shifted to a car hidden in vegetation, raising suspicion.

When challenged, the driver sped off, defying police orders. A chase followed, and suspects resisted arrest. One fired at officers, prompting police to return fire under operational rules.

The vehicle veered off the road and landed in bushes. Its occupants abandoned it and fled into nearby compounds.

In the confusion, a female suspect was cornered while sneaking into a residence. With help from a security guard, she was subdued and handed to police.

Police recovered the abandoned vehicle, now undergoing forensic examination to establish ownership and links to other crimes.

Authorities confirmed the suspect is assisting investigators as officers intensify the search for her accomplices.

Police have launched a manhunt across Nanyuki and surrounding areas, vowing to track down fugitives.

Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity as operations continue.
