A daring kidnap plot ended dramatically after police rescued a medical doctor from armed suspects who had allegedly demanded Sh3 million for his release.
Dr. Emmanuel Kerich was reportedly spending time with friends at Juja City Mall when the incident occurred.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), three armed men confronted him, handcuffed him, and forced him into a Subaru Forester before speeding away.
The kidnappers drove the doctor through several locations while allegedly torturing him and demanding ransom. Detectives tracked the suspects’ movements and launched a coordinated operation with the help of members of the public.
The chase ended along the Mavemba–Mugoya Road in Athi River, where police intercepted the suspects’ vehicle. Realizing they had been cornered, the kidnappers abandoned their mission and fled in different directions.
Two suspects managed to escape, but one was caught by members of the public, who descended on him before police officers arrived just in time to save him from mob justice. The injured suspect was rushed to hospital, where he remains under police guard.
Dr. Kerich was rescued safely during the operation. Detectives also recovered the handcuffs believed to have been used to restrain him.
Further investigations revealed that the Subaru Forester carried an additional registration plate, KDQ 640F, attached to its side mirrors.
Police believe the extra plate was deliberately used to disguise the vehicle and evade detection. The car has since been impounded as detectives continue gathering evidence.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for the two suspects still at large.
