Thursday, September 3, marked an emotional day for renowned Kenyan Gospel deejay Karumba Ngatia, popularly known as DJ Krowbar, as he remembered his late wife Joyce Wanjiru Karumba on what would have been their 17th wedding anniversary.
The couple officially exchanged their wedding vows 17 years ago on September 3, and despite Joyce’s passing earlier this year, DJ Krowbar chose to honour their special day by sharing memories of their life together.
The celebrated deejay posted photographs on Facebook showing him and Joyce enjoying their 16th wedding anniversary last year at a tea farm. The images captured what turned out to be their final anniversary date together.
Joyce had reportedly undergone a transplant procedure shortly before the occasion and was still recovering. Because her immunity was low, the couple avoided public places and instead chose a quiet outdoor setting for their anniversary celebration.
In his emotional message, DJ Krowbar recalled buying Joyce her favourite sandwich from Java before the two headed to the tea farms, where they spent time together and expressed gratitude for their years of marriage.
He described the occasion as their last date and said he was grateful that he understood the significance of the moment at the time and was able to fully cherish it.
Joyce died in January 2026 following a prolonged illness, leaving behind family, friends and loved ones who continue to remember her.
As DJ Krowbar marked what would have been their 17th anniversary, his tribute offered a deeply personal glimpse into the memories he continues to hold dear.
His emotional message highlighted both the pain of losing a life partner and the gratitude he feels for the years they shared together.
