Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service, Eliud Lagat, has presided over the commissioning of newly built Utalii Police Station in Mathare, Ruaraka Constituency.The facility, financed through the Ruaraka NG-CDF during the 2022/2023 financial year, is expected to play a central role in addressing insecurity in an area that has witnessed a rise in violent incidents.
In his address to residents, DIG Lagat emphasized the importance of strong ties between the community and law enforcement.
He encouraged locals to partner with officers by promptly reporting criminal activity and fostering trust, noting that security is best achieved when citizens and police work hand in hand.
The commissioning was also marked by words of appreciation from Ruaraka MP, T.J. Kajwang, who underscored that the establishment of the station would help suppress criminal cases, especially in hotspots such as Mradi where incidents of mugging and stabbing have been rampant.He thanked the Kenya Police Service leadership for deploying officers to the station to enhance response to crime.
Residents who attended event expressed gratitude, describing the project as a relief that would restore peace and order in their neighborhoods.
They hailed both the area MP and DIG Lagat for ensuring the security needs of the community were prioritized.
Following the commissioning, DIG Lagat, accompanied by senior police commanders, visited Kasarani Police Station where he held a closed-door session with top officers from the sub-county.
The meeting reviewed service delivery, command efficiency, and strategies for improving public safety.
Lagat’s visit underscored the government’s renewed focus on community-centered policing and building public confidence in security agencies.
