Fresh details have emerged about a 28-year-old man who was shot dead during a tense confrontation between police officers and residents in Kitengela during the Linda Mwananchi Tour.
The deceased has been identified as Victor Ayoma, a young man who lived and worked in Kitengela.
According to his family, Victor was shot while crossing the road as he was heading home when chaos broke out in the area.
The incident happened during the Linda Mwananchi Tour, an event organized by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.
Police officers reportedly lobbed tear gas canisters to disperse crowds that had gathered for the event.
Witnesses say the situation quickly turned chaotic as people ran in different directions to escape the tear gas.
It is during this confusion that Victor is said to have been caught in a confrontation between police officers and some residents.
According to his brother, Moses Ayoma, Victor was shot in the eye.
The bullet is said to have penetrated through his head, causing fatal injuries.
Speaking to the media, Moses said the family first received disturbing news that Victor might have been shot during the unrest.
Shocked and worried, they immediately began searching for him around Kitengela town.
They checked nearby hospitals hoping he had been rushed there for treatment.
However, their search did not bear fruit. After hours of looking for him without success, the family decided to visit the City Mortuary in Nairobi.
It is there that their worst fears were confirmed.
They found Victor’s body and were informed that he had died from a gunshot wound.
The family described Victor as a hardworking young man who had no involvement in the protests.
They said he was simply on his way home when he met his death. His sudden death has left relatives and friends in deep pain and shock.
