Shakahola masterminds have revealed how a burial permit looked like after it was written by a local chief in Kilifi county. One of the permits obtained belongs to Mr Sirya who wanted to bury his wife. In a peculiar turn of events, Mr. Sirya finds himself in possession of burial permission serial number 1722406, bearing the signature of Mr. Raymond Charo, the Assistant Chief of Makongeni Sublocation at the time.
Interestingly enough, Mr. Charo has since assumed the role of Chief of Chakama Location. This unexpected transfer of responsibilities adds an air of intrigue to the situation. It appears that the burial permission was granted subsequent to the submission of a letter, which provided a compelling explanation as to why such a permit was required. The individual behind this correspondence is none other than Mr. Silas Omondi Otieno, who sought permission to bury his late wife, Zilpha Adoyo Mwande.
Dated January 28, 2022, the letter states, ” Mimi Bw. Silas Omondi Otieno nathibitisha kwamba Bi Zilpha Adoyo Mwande ni mke wangu na kwamba mnamo usiku wa leo saa saba usiku ameaga dunia katika kijiji cha Shakahola Makongeni Sub- location. . . Kwa hiari yangu, nimeamua kumzika leo tarehe 28/1/2022 hapa nyumbani bila kuenda mortuary ndani ya masaa 24 hours. . . wako mwaminifu Silas O. Otieno” which translates to:
” I, Mr. Silas Omondi Otieno, confirm that Ms. Zilpha Adoyo Mwande is my wife, and that she passed away at 1 o’ clock this morning in the village of Shakahola, Makongeni Sub- location. . . It is my voluntary decision to bury her today, the 28th of January, 2022, at home without going to the mortuary within the next 24 hours. . . Yours faithfully, Silas O. Otieno. “
This poignant letter included the national identity card numbers of both Mr. Otieno and Ms. Mwande, further emphasizing the authenticity and seriousness of the request. To bolster this confirmation, copies of their respective identification cards were attached to the letter, leaving no room for doubt. The circumstances surrounding the burial permission and Mr. Otieno’ s request are undeniably intriguing.
