Kenyans have reacted to a CCTV clip circulating on social media showing suspected thieves approaching a house in Jomoko, Thika, before later walking away with what appears to be a television.
The footage shows the individuals moving carefully towards the house, appearing to tiptoe inside the property. Moments later, the same individuals are seen hurriedly leaving the compound. One of them appears to be carrying a television set.
According to reports shared alongside the video, the house was allegedly broken into and several valuables stolen. They reportedly included a 65-inch television, a Soundcore Bluetooth speaker and an Apple iPad.
The authenticity and circumstances surrounding the particular CCTV footage could not be independently verified from official police records at the time of reporting.
The incident has, however, attracted considerable attention online, with some Kenyans calling on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate the matter and identify the suspects.
The reactions come amid continued concerns over theft, burglary and other forms of property crime in different parts of Kenya.
Data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), based on National Police Service records, shows that 5,074 cases classified as “breakings” were reported to police in 2025.
This was lower than the 5,734 cases recorded in 2024 and 6,886 in 2023. The official category includes house breaking, burglary and other forms of breaking.
The National Police Service has also documented cases where CCTV footage helped investigators trace suspects. The Jomoko footage has therefore renewed calls for vigilance among homeowners and for suspected criminal incidents captured on CCTV to be reported to authorities for investigation.
