A family in Chuka, Meru county has being plunged into mourning after their bright student studying at Chuka Girls school over unknown reason on October 8, 2026 at evening hours
The student has been identified as 16-year-old Cynthia Mwende, who died after she allegedly hanged herself inside the St. Angela’s dormitory at the school on Wednesday evening.
According to Police Commander Zacheaus Ng’eno, the circumstances surrounding the student’s death remain under investigation.
He said the motive behind the alleged suicide had not been established, adding that detectives were working to establish what happened before the incident.
Cynthia’s parents reportedly arrived at the school shortly after they were informed about the incident.
They have since been engaging with the school management as police continue with investigations into the circumstances surrounding their daughter’s death.
Police said the student’s body had no visible injuries or marks. Officers are expected to examine the scene and gather information from students, teachers and other people who may have interacted with Cynthia before her death.
The incident has raised concern among parents and members of the local community, particularly because Cynthia was still a young student with her education and future ahead of her.
Her death has also left fellow students and members of the school community deeply affected.
Counselling and emotional support may be needed for students who witnessed or were affected by the incident as they come to terms with the sudden loss of their schoolmate.
Police have not disclosed whether any note or other information that could help explain the circumstances surrounding the death was found at the scene.
Efforts by journalists to reach the school’s principal, Mrs. Harriet Kinyua, for comment were unsuccessful, as she declined to speak to the media about the incident.
