President William Samoei Ruto’s government is allegedly thrown under the bus as Raila’s team issued new demands hours after calling off mass demonstrations. According to the developing news, Raila clarified that they are not interested in any deals touching on power sharing with Kenya Kwanza government. In fact, the former Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga alleged that Kenya Kwanza is an illegitimate government that is in power through a civilian coup.
While addressing Kenyans on Thursday 4th, May 2023, Raila allegedly issued new demands that Kenya Kwanza government must meet during the bipartisan talks. Odinga said that forensic audit of the 2022 presidential election results must be done not later than 30 days.
Other demands touched on issues of reintroduction of subsidises on fuel, maize flour, electricity and fertilizer. Raila said that cost of living will only drop if prices of fuel, electricity, maize flour and fertilizer addressed through introduction of subsidies.
In addition, Raila called on the Kenya Kwanza government to restructure and reconstitute Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commision (IEBC). Odinga said the move must be impartial enough to allow free and fair elections within the next coming years.
Further, Odinga’s team wants the Kenya Kwanza government to stop the interference in the management and operations of political parties with a view to co-opting or paralyzing those parties.
On his part, Raila called on the bipartisan talks to end immediately after 30 days. He alleged that his team will not allow any form of laziness that will make the talks to take more than one month.
Lastly, Odinga allegedly demanded the release of those who were arrested on Tuesday 2nd, May 2023. He called on the government to release the protestors before the beginning of the bipartisan talks.
Further, Raila clarified allegedly warned President William Samoei Ruto that they will not hesitate to resort to alternative measures at the slightest indication of lack of good will and honesty on Kenya Kwanza camp. Raila added that if Ruto’s side failed to adhere to the alleged demands, there will be no turning back.
