Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has raised alarm after revealing that his security officer, identified as Oliver, and Oliver’s wife were arrested and allegedly assaulted by officers believed to be attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations following a political rally in Kakamega County.
In a strongly worded statement, Babu said he received the deeply troubling news about the arrest, noting that the reasons for detaining the two remain unclear. He condemned what he described as intimidation, unlawful arrest, and violence, arguing that such actions go against the Constitution of Kenya and the role of security agencies.
The MP demanded immediate transparency from the DCI, including clear communication on the charges, confirmation of the couple’s safety, and strict adherence to due process. He insisted that no Kenyan should be harassed or brutalized by officers tasked with upholding the law.
The incident has reignited debate around alleged misuse of state security agencies in political contexts, especially during heightened political activity in the region.
