COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has dismissed claims of asking his estranged wife, Roselinda Simiyu Atwoli, to leave their home over her support for Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.
In a statement on Monday, August 24, Atwoli clarified that an alleged phone conversation circulating online is not recent.
The COTU boss noted that the phone conversation is more than 10 years old and has been misleadingly presented as a recent incident
“Outdated. This is an expired video and narrative! That misleading Heha production audio is more than 10-years-old,” Atwoli stated.
The clarification comes weeks after Roselinda publicly declared her support for Sifuna ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Notably, ahead of the 2022 General Election, Atwoli said he no longer had a relationship with Roselinda.
“Roselinda is no longer on the list of my relatives,” the COTU Secretary General said.
Atwoli made the remarks after President William Ruto welcomed Roselinda to the UDA Party.
Addressing the crowd, Roselinda acknowledged that she indeed had a close relationship with Atwoli.
“My name is Roselinda Simiyu. My husband is known as Francis Atwoli. I am inside the Hustler Movement,” she remarked.
The development comes days after Atwoli dismissed claims that he was supposed to be aboard the ill-fated chopper that crashed at Mt. Ololokwe in Samburu County and left seven people dead.
In a statement on Thursday, August 20, Atwoli termed the social media reports inaccurate and said they were meant to cause panic among members of the public.
“Please disregard all these lazy and fake stories from these social media addicts, idle doomscrollers and master spreaders of misinformation and fake news,” the veteran trade unionist stated.
The fatal accident was confirmed by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), which added that all seven people on board the helicopter were killed when the aircraft went down in a remote area of Samburu County.
