Tragic road accident in the early hours of Saturday morning has claimed the lives of seven people at Koromboi, near Kitengela in Kajiado County.
The deadly crash happened along the busy Nairobi–Namanga highway and involved a lorry and a matatu.
According to police reports, the accident occurred after the two vehicles collided head-on. Witnesses at the scene said the impact was so severe that several passengers died instantly.
Among the deceased was the lorry driver, who is believed to have been trapped in the wreckage.
Emergency responders, including police officers and paramedics, rushed to the scene to rescue survivors and move the injured to nearby hospitals.
Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims as families are being informed.
However, the bodies of the deceased have been taken to Kitengela Hospital mortuary.
The injured are receiving treatment, with some reported to be in critical condition.
Local residents have described the accident as one of the most horrific they have witnessed in recent months.
“The sound of the crash woke us up. When we came out, there was chaos and cries for help,” one resident recounted.
Police say preliminary investigations suggest that one of the drivers may have been attempting to overtake when the collision happened, though the exact cause is yet to be confirmed.
They have urged motorists to be extra cautious, especially along the Nairobi–Namanga highway, which has become notorious for frequent accidents.
Kajiado County traffic officials are now calling for stricter road safety measures, including speed checks and better enforcement of traffic laws
