Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has strongly criticized the recent incident where a shoe was thrown at President William Ruto during his tour of Migori County yesterday. The shocking act, which occurred as the President addressed a crowd, has sparked widespread condemnation and debate about the growing frustration among Kenyans.

In a statement released on Monday, Kioni described the shoe-throwing as a symbol of deep desperation.

“Throwing a shoe is worse than throwing a stone. A shoe has a story; stones are just things you pick up. Why would a shoe be thrown at the leadership? It symbolizes the level of desperation of Kenyans. It’s like they are saying those elected cannot speak on our behalf. You would rather have a stone thrown at you, not a shoe.” Kioni said.

The incident, which was captured on video and widely shared on social media, shows the shoe narrowly missing the President before security personnel swiftly intervened. The assailant was arrested and is currently in police custody. Authorities have yet to release a statement on the motive behind the act.

Political analysts suggest the incident reflects mounting public discontent over economic hardships and unfulfilled promises. Opposition leaders have called for dialogue to address the underlying issues, while supporters of the President have dismissed the act as isolated and disrespectful.
