Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has sparked a conversation in the political arena by advising fellow Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) legislators to strengthen their own political bases instead of relying on party leader Raila Odinga for support.
In a statement shared on his X account on February 17, 2025, Amisi emphasized that it is time for new leadership to emerge within the party.
He said, “ODM MPs should now go and seek votes for themselves and give Baba some rest.”
Amisi’s call suggests that it is high time for the younger and emerging leaders to step up and take charge.
He also pointed out that those who prove their worth would naturally gain Raila’s endorsement, without any pressure.
“Other potential leaders must emerge and showcase themselves. If you prove to be good, you will receive Raila’s endorsement without struggle,” he added.
Amisi’s remarks come amid growing concerns about Raila’s future in active politics, especially after his loss in the recent African Union Commission (AUC) election.
While many ODM MPs still rely on Raila’s influence, Amisi warned against overburdening him with political duties.
He said, “We must never misuse the enigma anymore to satisfy the selfish political adventure of lazy and/or retrogressive leaders!”
He added that it is essential for leaders to carry their own weight instead of depending solely on Raila’s political capital.
In his statement, Amisi also took a jab at opposition leaders, including Kalonzo Musyoka and Rigathi Gachagua, urging them to be more active in the political landscape.
“Kalonzo and his group should increase press conferences from twice a week to twice a day—morning and evening,” he humorously stated, calling for more political engagement.
Amisi’s call for fresh leadership comes at a time when many are debating Raila’s next political steps.
Belgut MP Nelson Koech, in an interview on February 17, 2025, suggested that Raila’s vast experience and wisdom could be useful within the Kenya Kwanza coalition.
Koech proposed creating a Prime Minister position for Raila, believing that his input could help improve governance in the country.
As Amisi’s words continue to resonate, it remains unclear whether Raila will step back from active politics or continue to guide ODM and its leaders.
