Preparations for this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations have entered the final stage after a green carpet was laid at Wajir Stadium ahead of the national event set for June 1.
The government has been racing against time to complete renovations at the stadium, which will host thousands of guests, leaders and residents during the historic celebrations in Wajir County. Workers were seen putting final touches on the venue as security officers and event organizers carried out inspections.
The green carpet installation marked a major milestone in the preparations, giving the stadium a fresh and attractive look ahead of the big day. New seats, improved lighting systems and upgraded terraces have also been added to improve the experience for guests attending the celebrations.
National and county government officials have said preparations are almost complete. Roads leading to the stadium have been repaired while cleaning exercises are ongoing across Wajir town to welcome visitors expected from different parts of the country.
Security has also been tightened in the area, with police officers increasing patrols around key venues. Hotels and businesses in Wajir are expected to benefit from the influx of visitors attending the national event.
Residents have expressed excitement over hosting the celebrations for the first time in many years, saying the event will help showcase the region’s culture, growth and development.
President William Ruto is expected to lead the celebrations alongside senior government officials and invited guests during the national event.
