Machakos County workers have received great news after Governor Wavinya Ndeti announced the promotion of more than 1,000 employees. This move comes as a relief to many who have been stuck in the same job groups for years.
Speaking on Friday, February 15, during the launch of the County Public Service Policy, Wavinya ordered the immediate promotion of 86 employees set to retire in 2025. She also revealed that 916 more workers, whose promotions had been delayed for nine years, will be promoted starting July 1, 2025.The governor addressed hundreds of employees from different departments, assuring them that her administration is committed to fairness and career growth. She acknowledged the struggles of workers who had waited up to a decade for promotions and vowed to end career stagnation in the county government.
To ensure long-term solutions, the county has developed a human resource policy to improve staff welfare and streamline promotions. Wavinya emphasized that those in the lowest job groups, including group A workers, will also benefit. Additionally, county nurses will begin receiving their promotion letters this week.
In a move to boost morale, the governor announced the introduction of an annual staff award scheme. This program will recognize and reward outstanding employees from different departments. The Performance Advisory Committee and the Department of Public Service will oversee the selection and awarding process.
Wavinya also revealed plans to offer permanent employment to Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) teachers. This decision aims to strengthen the education sector in the county and improve job security for teachers.
She reassured county residents that her leadership is focused on fairness and efficiency in the workforce. With these promotions, 35 percent of the county’s promotable employees will have moved to the next level, a significant milestone for Machakos County.This announcement marks a turning point for many workers who have been waiting for career growth. It also highlights the governor’s commitment to improving working conditions and ensuring fairness in employment opportunities.
