Selena Gomez stated recently that her music career may be coming to an end sometime soon. The superstar is more focused at the moment on acting and producing, as she’s recently found great success in those realms with projects like Emilia Perez and Only Murders in the Building. While she may be distancing herself from her pop music past, Americans—as well as listeners all around the world—aren’t done with that part of her history just yet.
Despite not having released any music for almost a year, Gomez scores a top 10 hit in the U.S. this week. The singer and actress actually appears inside the highest tier on a pair of rankings, even managing to return to the loftiest space on one of them with what has turned out to be one of the biggest smashes of her career.
“Calm Down,” Gomez’s collaboration with Nigerian musician Rema, blasts back onto the Adult Contemporary chart this week. The single re-enters Billboard’s list of the most successful tracks across the country on radio stations that play that one pop subgenre at No. 9.
It’s not common for a tune to fall away from one of Billboard’s radio rosters, only to return inside the top 10. Gomez and Rema manage the rare feat thanks to the continued popularity of their duet, as well as the disappearance of a number of Christmas tunes, which suddenly became out of fashion after the holiday passed.
The same title also lives inside the top 10 on the World Digital Song Sales chart, though it doesn’t find its way back into that region, as it was already present last frame. “Calm Down” does improve its position, though, as it pushes from No. 7 to No. 5.
“Calm Down” also makes a home once more on the Billboard Global 200, as people everywhere never stopped streaming or buying the tune. Gomez and Rema reappear at No. 175 on the ranking of the most-consumed songs all around the planet.
The two musicians have now kept “Calm Down” on both the World Digital Song Sales chart and Billboard Global 200 for well over 100 weeks, and that number is climbing all the time. The tune is up to 75 frames on the Adult Contemporary roster, which is a huge sum for any of Billboard’s radio lists.
