President William Ruto is reportedly moving to remove MPs from lucrative positions in the National Assembly who defied the ruling coalition by voting against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment, as reported on Thursday, October 24, 2024.

According to sources, those in the crosshairs include committee chairpersons and vice-chairpersons who supported the impeachment motion despite the party’s stance.

A senior government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed, “The President is not taking any acts of defiance lightly. Loyalty to the coalition is paramount, and those who went against the grain will face the consequences.”

The move is seen as a demonstration of President Ruto’s commitment to enforcing party discipline and maintaining control within the Kenya Kwanza government.

Among the MPs targeted for removal are key figures who chair powerful parliamentary committees, positions that come with significant influence and perks.

“Those who defied the coalition’s directive will have to step down from their positions. This is about maintaining unity and discipline in the party,” a government insider added.
