COTU (K) has urged William Ruto to consider implementing an Employment Initiative inspired by the Late First President of Kenya, Jomo Kenyatta which mandated that all govt parastatals and ministries employ 10pc of their total workforce.
“Kenya is currently facing an unemployment crisis, particularly among the youth, and, therefore, the revival of the 10pc employment mandate would provide immediate job opportunities and reduce the number of jobless citizens.’ Francis Atwoli, COTU-SG.
“It is the view of COTU (K) that, among the many actions to be taken by the President of Kenya, the provision of employment opportunities through this initiative would help mitigate the ongoing demonstrations and promote social cohesion.’ Francis Atwoli, COTU-SG.
The General Secretary of the Union of Workers in COTU Francis Atwoli has recommended President William to create a task force that will visit all 47 counties to take the views of the youth to resolve the issues that are affecting them as a result of the youth protests witnessed against the complex financial bill of 2024.
Speaking in the Khwisero constituency of Kakamega County at the funeral, Atwoli said it would be good if the panel visited the localities with the committee that President Ruto has created of 100 people to solve the problems witnessed citing the importance of the opinions of the youth.
Francis Atwoli, Secretary General of the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU), has called on President William Ruto.
He urged him to pause the assent of the contentious Finance Bill 2024 amid rising tensions and protests across Kenya. While we understand the government’s need for budgetary provisions, suspending the Finance Bill temporarily is crucial,” Atwoli stated.
