A Nakuru court Tuesday remanded a man accused of defiling a 14-year-old boy.
Chris Cyrus Makenzi, 43, allegedly attacked the boy on December 6, 2017 at Soko Mjinga in Nakuru County.
Mr Makenzi, who according to the charge sheet faces several other similar charges, is also accused of forced the minor into an indecent act.
He denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Joe Omido.
Prosecutor Sandra Kosgei, however, objected to the release of the suspect on bond and told the court the authorities had received information that the public was hostile and could harm the man.
Very hostile
“We object his release on bond. I have information from the investigating officer that the public is very hostile and allowing his release on bond is subjecting him to danger,” said the prosecutor.
Ms Koskei also informed the court that the man had another case pending in court for which he had been released on bond.
According to the investigating officer, Makenzi faced a charge of defiling five minors in Nakuru in 2015.
The prosecutor told the court that a report to ascertain the situation on the ground should be prepared and presented in court before the man is let out.
Makenzi, however, disagreed with the prosecutor’s claims and insisted that he was safe.
He said the allegations against him were false and were as a result of the failure of the case he faced earlier.
“I’m safe and I know this offence is falsely brought against me by the complainant after a case I faced earlier was ruled in my favour,” said Makenzi.
The court declined to allow his release on bond until a report on his safety is presented.
“The court has considered your sentiments and at the moment you will not be granted bond. You will be remanded in custody until December 27, when a report on your safety will be presented in court,” ruled the magistrate.
