President William Ruto has revealed that there are some civil servants who have awarded themselves salaries that are higher than his. He said this during the opening of the 8th Devolution Conference in Eldoret on Wednesday, August 16.
Ruto said he had requested the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) to give a proper advisory on the matter. He said it was unfair for some people in parastatals or institutions to earn more than the president, who is the highest-paid public servant in the country.
He also assured the Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) that their salaries would be reviewed to be at par with those of the legislators in the National Assembly. He said all public servants should be compensated equally, regardless of their rank or position.
Ruto’s remarks come at a time when Kenya is facing economic challenges and high unemployment rates. Many Kenyans have expressed their dissatisfaction with the high cost of living and the poor delivery of public services.
