Rains

Kenyans should prepare for mixed weather conditions this week as the Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has released a fresh forecast covering August 25 to 31, 2026.

According to the latest forecast, most parts of the country are expected to remain generally dry. However, selected counties are likely to receive rainfall during the week.

The areas expected to experience some rainfall include Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale, Tana River, Lamu, Kirinyaga, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, Nyeri, Murang’a, Garissa, Bungoma and Trans Nzoia.

The forecast means residents in these areas should remain alert, especially when planning outdoor activities, farming work and travel.

Temperature differences will also be noticeable across the country. Some areas are expected to record daytime temperatures of more than 30°C, while parts of the highlands may experience very cold nights, with temperatures falling below 10°C.

The changing conditions are expected to affect daily activities, with residents advised to dress according to local weather conditions and take precautions where rainfall is expected.

For farmers, the forecast is also important because rainfall remains uneven across the country. Kenya Met regularly provides seven-day forecasts to help farmers, transport operators, businesses and households prepare for changing weather.

The latest update comes as Kenya continues to experience generally drier conditions in many areas during the current season. However, the country is expected to see wetter conditions later in the year, with Kenya Met previously warning of increased rainfall from October as El Niño conditions develop.

Residents are therefore encouraged to keep checking official weather updates, especially in areas where rainfall, strong winds or sharp temperature changes are expected.

This week’s forecast shows once again that Kenya’s weather can vary greatly from one county to another, with some places experiencing warm afternoons while others face cold nights and occasional rain.
