President William Ruto on Thursday hosted prominent businessmen Abubakar “Abu” Joho and Sam Mburu at State House, Nairobi, in a private engagement that has drawn attention on social media.

Photos circulating online show the Head of State seated with the two men during the meeting. Abubakar Joho is the elder brother of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho and a key figure in the family’s logistics and freight business interests at the Coast. Sam Mburu, popularly known as “Kiongozi,” is the husband of Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika and a leading clearing and forwarding operator through Landmark Freight Services. He has long been regarded as a close associate of the President.

The closed-door session fits into a pattern of selective engagements President Ruto has held with influential private sector players and regional power brokers. Both Joho and Mburu operate in the freight and logistics sector, an industry closely tied to Kenya’s ports, trade corridors and supply chains.

Details of the discussions were not immediately made public. Neither State House nor the two businessmen issued official statements on the agenda. Political observers note that such meetings often focus on investment, infrastructure, regional development or political coordination ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Abubakar Joho has in recent months increased his public visibility, supporting youth programmes and political mobilisation at the Coast alongside his brother’s national role. Mburu, who maintains a low public profile, is widely seen as an influential figure in Nakuru politics and business circles with longstanding ties to the President’s political machinery.

The meeting underscores the continued bridging of political and business networks at the highest levels of government as Kenya’s political calendar intensifies.
