A Kenyan graduate turned an ordinary shopping trip into an unexpected celebration after visiting a Naivas Supermarket in Thika and asking strangers to congratulate him on earning his degree.

In a TikTok video posted by @mshairi_creatives_ent, the cheerful graduate is seen pushing a trolley around the supermarket while stopping to share his achievement with shoppers and employees.

Proudly declaring himself the “newest graduate in town,” he encouraged everyone he encountered to join him in celebrating the milestone.

He approached a woman near the checkout area and asked her to congratulate him. She gladly did so, clearly adding to his excitement. He thanked her warmly and humorously told her that he loved her.

The graduate also addressed those who often downplay university qualifications as mere pieces of paper. He argued that earning his degree had required significant time, money and personal sacrifice.

“If a degree is a piece of paper, go to the cyber and print one for yourself,” he remarked.

His comments highlighted the challenges many students endure, including tuition costs, demanding examinations and years of dedication before finally earning their certificates.

For him, the degree symbolised far more than a piece of paper—it represented years of determination, sacrifice and hard work, making the achievement worth celebrating.

The unusual celebration quickly caught the attention of social media users, many of whom found his bold and spontaneous approach entertaining.

Instead of waiting for a traditional graduation celebration, the Thika graduate created his own memorable moment and brought unsuspecting shoppers along for the ride.
