Mary Clare Ochieng, an SDA singer, has broken her silence following the mysterious death of Elvis Opiyo in Umoja, Nairobi.
In her statement, Mary Clare said she deeply regretted the circumstances surrounding Opiyo’s demise.
She claimed that she had returned all the money he had sent before the tragedy, insisting that she was willing to forgive him instead of seeing him take his own life.
Speaking in what she described as a heartfelt reflection, she conveyed that her focus was not on revenge, but reconciliation.
Her remarks were reported to include that she had anticipated reconciliation between them and that the money was returned after the events unfolded.
She also stated that she was “ready to forgive him badala ya yeye kujiua,” translating to: she was ready to forgive him rather than him taking his own life.
Elvis Opiyo had been accused of orchestrating an acid attack targeting Mary Clare, who was identified as a church member within the SDA community.
According to accounts shared during the unfolding investigations, Opiyo was alleged to have carried out the attack with accomplices.
Several suspects were reportedly arrested in connection with the incident, including those taken into custody after the acid attack along Ngong Road in Nairobi.
Investigations later narrowed further as police worked to establish the full chain of events.
Sources who spoke on condition of anonymity indicated that after Opiyo was released from custody on personal bond, he allegedly went directly to his home in Umoja where he resided.
A friend who reportedly visited him later told investigators that he found Opiyo lifeless at the residence.
