A Nairobi motorist, Darren Kirimi, has shared a shocking experience after he was arrested by traffic pPolice.
Darren said he was stopped last Thursday at a roundabout for making a wrong lane change. He said he was in the inner lane and was supposed to complete a full 360-degree turn before exiting. It was a mistake he admitted.
He was arrested and taken to the police station. At the station, officers suggested he could settle the matter unofficially, but he refused to pay a bribe. He decided to follow the law.
He was booked and paid KSh 5,000 as cash bail. He was told to come to court on a set date.
Hours before his court appearance, he got a call from the case officer. The officer told him his KSh 5,000 was being refunded and he should not go to court.
Darren said he was stunned. He shared his story on Facebook, saying honesty worked. His story has now sparked talk online about bribery on Kenyan roads and how drivers can avoid corruption.
