Mukurweini Member of Parliament John Kaguchia was on Tuesday morning escorted from Kamukunji Police Station to the Milimani Law Courts, where he is expected to appear before a magistrate. The transfer came after the legislator spent the night in police custody following his arrest on Monday.
Photos captured outside the police station showed Kaguchia in high spirits as he emerged from the premises. Wearing a grey blazer, dark trousers and a green-and-red cap, he smiled broadly and repeatedly raised both hands to acknowledge supporters who had gathered outside.
Several political allies, lawyers and supporters accompanied the MP as he made his way to a waiting vehicle. The crowd cheered and waved while security officers maintained order, creating a lively scene before the convoy departed for the courthouse.
Kaguchia had earlier been taken into custody by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations before being booked at Kamukunji Police Station. His arrest quickly attracted public attention, with supporters questioning the circumstances surrounding the operation and calling for a fair legal process.
His legal team has maintained that the matter should be handled strictly within the law and expressed confidence that the court process would provide clarity on the allegations facing the legislator. Political leaders allied to the MP have also urged authorities to respect his constitutional rights throughout the proceedings.
The case is now expected to move to the Milimani Law Courts, where prosecutors are likely to outline the charges before the court determines the next course of action.
