Pastor Victor Kanyari has stirred fresh debate after revealing how his relationship with late gospel singer Betty Bayo began, sharing the personal story during a church service at Salvation Healing Ministry.
Speaking to his congregation, Kanyari recalled that their relationship started unexpectedly after they spent several days together following what was meant to be a simple visit.
According to him, he had called Betty to ask where he could send her some money. She told him she was at Rainbow Hotel and asked him to pass by.
After spending some time together, heavy rain started falling. Since Betty’s car was at the garage, she requested him to drop her home.
Kanyari explained that they did not have romantic feelings for each other at the time. However, as they drove towards Kiambu, they encountered heavy traffic. He then suggested they spend the night at his house instead of continuing the journey, and she agreed.
“And that is how we got married. She slept over. The next day she did not go anywhere; I remember she made mokimo and beef that we ate. She slept for two days, and we did not go anywhere. On the fourth day, she went to their place, took her clothes and came to live with me.
And you know I do not have the heart to marry. And that is how we got Sky and Danny,” Kanyari said.
He added that after Betty moved in, they discussed how they would explain their living arrangement to members of the church since they had not held a wedding.
Betty Bayo died in November 2025, leaving behind their two children, Sky and Danny.
The pastor’s remarks quickly spread across social media, attracting mixed reactions. Some Kenyans said the story showed how deeply he loved Betty and that he still misses her.
Others questioned whether such personal experiences should be shared during a church service, while some viewed the account as a lesson on relationships.
The viral clip has once again placed Kanyari at the centre of public discussion, with many continuing to reflect on his memories of the late gospel singer and the unusual way their relationship began.
