South Africa-based Ugandan socialite Zari Hassan has responded to claims by some Kenyans on social media who have been comparing her to Jonasi Gomora, the manipulative lead character in the popular Netflix series The Polygamist.
The comparisons emerged after Zari shared her thoughts on the hit drama and revealed that, in hindsight, she believes her late father displayed traits similar to Jonasi. Her remarks sparked debate online, with some social media users branding her the “female version of Jonasi.”
In a TikTok video, Zari dismissed the comparisons, saying they were both inaccurate and disrespectful. She insisted that her relationship history is completely different from that of the fictional character, who is known for deceiving multiple women while hiding behind the idea of traditional polygamy.
“I date one person at a time,” Zari said, adding that every man she has been in a relationship with can attest to her loyalty and commitment. She argued that unlike Jonasi, she does not juggle multiple partners or manipulate people for personal gain.
The mother of five also expressed frustration over being judged based on online rumors rather than facts. She urged critics to watch the series before making comparisons and maintained that she has always been faithful in her relationships.
Zari further described herself as a good woman who gives her full attention and commitment to the person she is dating. She emphasized that she does not live the lifestyle people have portrayed online and called on social media users to treat her with more respect.
Her response comes just weeks after she and her Ugandan husband, Shakib Cham, announced the end of their five-year marriage. In a joint statement, the pair said they had mutually agreed to separate due to irreconcilable differences but would remain friends and continue to respect one another despite the breakup.
