Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo has expressed deep sorrow following the tragic killing of a young university graduate whose body was discovered in Nyandenda village, Suba South Constituency, on the morning of July 1.
The victim, identified as Catherine Oyugi, was a graduate of University of Mombasa.
According to reports from residents, Catherine had left her home early in the morning for her routine exercise when she was allegedly attacked by unknown assailants.
She was reportedly stabbed to death before her body was abandoned in a nearby thicket, sending shockwaves throughout the local community.
The heartbreaking incident has left Catherine’s family devastated, with her father said to have been overcome with grief after learning of his daughter’s death.
Neighbours and friends gathered at the family’s home to offer comfort as they struggled to come to terms with the tragic loss of a young woman they described as hardworking, humble, and full of promise.
Residents of Nyandenda village said Catherine was widely admired for her kindness, generosity, and positive influence within the community.
Many recalled her willingness to support others and expressed disbelief that such a tragedy had befallen someone they considered a role model for young people.
One resident, identified as Nyar John, described Catherine as “a light to this generation,” adding that many people looked up to her because of her humility and compassionate nature.
The killing has sparked concern among residents, who are now calling for enhanced security and swift action to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
Community members have urged law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to Catherine’s death.
Reacting to the incident, MP Millie Odhiambo conveyed her condolences to Catherine’s family and the people of Nyandenda village.
