A former Nairobi County employee has been convicted by the court and ordered to repay KSh 4.75 million after being found guilty of financial wrongdoing during his time in office.
The court heard that the accused person had misused public funds that were meant for county services. The money was reportedly lost through irregular payments and improper handling of financial records while he was still working for the county government.
After a full hearing of the case, the court found that there was enough evidence to show that the money was not used for its intended purpose. The judge said public funds must be protected and used in a proper way to serve citizens.
As part of the ruling, the former employee was given two options. He must either repay the full amount of Ksh 4.75 million or face further legal action, which could include a prison sentence depending on compliance with the order.
The case has drawn attention from residents in Nairobi, many of whom have expressed concern about the misuse of public funds. Some citizens said that such cases show the need for stronger accountability in government offices.
Officials from Nairobi County welcomed the court’s decision, saying it sends a strong message that corruption and misuse of public money will not be tolerated. They also said they will continue to strengthen systems to prevent similar cases in the future.
Anti-corruption agencies have also encouraged members of the public to report any suspected misuse of funds in government offices. They say public participation is important in fighting corruption.
The convicted former employee is expected to comply with the court order or face further consequences as directed by the law.
