President William Ruto has announced a series of changes in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), promoting and appointing several senior officers in a move aimed at strengthening the military’s leadership.

The changes, which were made following recommendations from the Defence Council, affect key positions in both the Kenya Army and the Kenya Air Force.

Among those promoted is Major General John Maiso Nkoimo, who has been appointed the new Deputy Commander of the Kenya Army. He takes over from Major General Mohamed Nur Hassan, who has retired from service.

Before his latest appointment, Nkoimo served as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Central Command.

Brigadier Mohamud Salah Farah has also been appointed Deputy Commander of the Kenya Air Force.

Prior to the promotion, he served as the Base Commander at Laikipia Air Base, one of the country’s key military installations.

In another major change, Brigadier William Kamoiro has been elevated to the rank of Major General and appointed the new General Officer Commanding Central Command. He fills the position left vacant by Nkoimo’s promotion.

At the same time, Brigadier Peter Kipketer Limo has been promoted to Major General and named Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of Personnel and Logistics at the Defence Headquarters. His new role will involve overseeing the welfare, management, and logistical support of military personnel.

The appointments come at a time when attention is beginning to shift toward future leadership changes within the military.
