Bungoma Governor has urged leaders from the Luhya community to rally behind President William Ruto for a second term, saying it would allow the Head of State to complete ongoing development projects while also positioning the region for stronger political negotiations ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during the burial ceremony of former Ford Kenya nominated MP Patrick Wangamati at Khachonge Primary School in Kabuchai Constituency, Lusaka said supporting President Ruto’s re-election bid would be strategic for the Luhya community, which he said could benefit politically in the future.

The governor noted that once the current administration completes its agenda, the Luhya community would be better placed to front a presidential candidate in subsequent political arrangements. His remarks were made in the presence of several political leaders who had attended the high-profile funeral.

The ceremony, which has drawn leaders from both the government and opposition sides, continued to serve as a major political gathering in Bungoma County. Earlier in the day, opposition figures including Nairobi Senator , Trans Nzoia Governor and Roots Party leader had addressed mourners.

Lusaka’s remarks added to the politically charged atmosphere at the funeral, which has seen leaders use the platform to discuss regional unity, national politics and the future of Western Kenya in the country’s leadership landscape.

The late Patrick Wangamati, father of former Bungoma Governor , is being remembered as a respected leader who served his community with dedication and commitment to public service.

As the burial proceedings continue, leaders and mourners remain gathered at Khachonge Primary School to pay their final respects, with tributes reflecting both his personal legacy and the broader political significance of the event.
