Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko celebrated the 25th birthday of his adopted son Gift Osinya with a colourful event held at his Nairobi office.
The celebration attracted close friends,family members and associates who joined the family in marking the special occasion.
The birthday party was decorated with balloons, lights and a large cake as music played during the event.
Videos and photos shared online showed a lively atmosphere as guests gathered around Gift during the celebrations.
Sonko appeared cheerful throughout the event as he interacted with the young man he has raised for years after adopting him following the 2014 terror attack in Likoni Mombasa.
During the celebration,Sonko presented Gift with several gifts that included a Bible,perfumes a wristwatch,greeting cards and KSh 200,000 in cash.
The money gift became one of the biggest highlights of the birthday party and quickly attracted attention on social media after videos from the event circulated online.
The relationship between Sonko and Gift has remained widely known in Kenya since the former governor took responsibility for Gift and his younger brother Satrine Osinya after the deadly terrorist attack at Joy Jesus Church in Likoni in 2014.
Their mother died during the attack while Satrine survived with serious injuries after a bullet became lodged in his head.Sonko later stepped in to support the boys through medical treatment, education and daily care.
Over the years,Sonko has frequently shared milestones involving Gift and Satrine on social media,including birthdays,school achievements, and family celebrations.
Previous reports showed that Sonko once gifted Gift a luxury Mercedes-Benz during an earlier birthday celebration as the young man continued his university studies.
The latest birthday celebration sparked reactions online with many Kenyans praising Sonko for continuing to support the two brothers more than a decade after the tragic attack.
Social media users described the occasion as emotional and inspiring after seeing Gift grow into adulthood under Sonko’s care.
