Popular Eldoret entertainer Janet Jerop, widely known as DJ Hot Jantex, has stirred reactions online after embarking on a daring 50-hour no-sleep challenge aimed at creating awareness about her health condition and fighting stigma.
The DJ, who recently made headlines after appealing for financial help to clear a massive hospital bill, had successfully completed 10 hours of the challenge by Friday afternoon, according to updates shared by close friends and supporters.
Jerop had been admitted at MP Shah Hospital for over a month following a complicated leg operation that reportedly left her bedridden. Her situation touched many Kenyans after she publicly sought assistance online, prompting leaders and well-wishers to step in.
Among those who came to her rescue was Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, who reportedly cleared her KSh 1.2 million hospital bill and facilitated her transport back to Eldoret to continue recovery from home.
Photos circulating online showed the entertainer seated on a large white armchair surrounded by friends who had gathered to encourage her during the challenge.
Jerop appeared in high spirits despite her condition, dressed casually in a graphic long-sleeved top and red shorts while holding a red rose. In some of the photos, she covered her legs as supporters posed beside her.
A Facebook post shared by local influencer Koech Manasseh praised her resilience and determination.“DJ Hot Jantex Jerop has completed 10 hours out of the planned 50-hour no-sleep challenge. She is standing strong against stigma and fighting for a better tomorrow. We wish her a speedy recovery and success in the challenge,” read part of the post.
The unusual challenge quickly attracted attention online, with many netizens expressing concern over the risks involved, especially considering her current health condition.
Some social media users warned that prolonged lack of sleep could worsen her recovery, while others encouraged her to seek alternative ways of raising awareness.Others, however, praised her courage and determination, sending messages of encouragement and prayers for healing.
Jerop’s challenge comes months after several Kenyans went viral for engaging in symbolic public demonstrations to seek support or highlight personal struggles.
Earlier this year, individuals across different counties participated in unusual endurance activities, including tree-hugging vigils and extended awareness campaigns, drawing nationwide attention on social media.
Many observers believe such actions reflect growing frustration among ordinary citizens seeking public support during difficult times.
Despite the criticism surrounding her latest move, DJ Hot Jantex continues to receive support from fans and friends who hope she recovers fully and returns to the entertainment scene stronger than before.
